Our Mission

Our Story

My name is James Amodei, and I'm a 29-year-old with a Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD). I created XBH Brain Gear to share my passion for baseball while building a life of independence and purpose. My dad Mike and I run this family business together, connecting fellow players and fans with meaningful baseball memorabilia and gear.

At XBH Brain Gear, we believe baseball is a thinking game—and thinking differently is a strength.

"XBH" stands for Extra Base Hit, which in baseball means turning a single into a double or more. It's about going the extra mile, making the most of every opportunity, and pushing beyond limits—just like I strive to do every day.

"Brain Gear" represents both the collectible baseball hats and memorabilia we sell and the mental side of the game—focus, strategy, and attention to detail. My unique way of thinking helps me notice the little things that matter, whether it's a rare piece of memorabilia or the story behind it.

Giving Back

Through this business, I'm not only supporting myself—we're also giving back to the community that has supported me. A portion of every sale supports The Logan Center, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives. Together, we're helping young people with learning differences build confidence, express themselves, and discover their own strengths through sports and creativity.
